Carl and Ann Worthington of South Shore will mark 55 years of marriage on Jan. 16, 2009.

They were married Jan. 16, 1954, at Wurtland United Baptist Church with Elder Clyde Stephens officiating the ceremony.

He is the son of the late Arthur and Grace Worthington. He is retired as project engineer from Florida Power and Light, U.S. Army signal corp.

She is the daughter of the late Willie J. and Myrtle Everman. She is a homemaker and writes poetry that has been published in The Independent.

They are both members of Siloam Baptist Church.

They are the parents of one daughter, Kimberly Jo Singleton and her husband, Gene, of Concord, N.C., and the grandparents of two grandsons, Adam Singleton, who is in the military, serving in the U.S. Navy, where he has served in Iraq and the Persian Gulf; and Sean Singleton who is a computer tech.

A celebration will be in the spring with their family in Concord.
