Holbrook


Charles and Dorothy Holbrook will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 28, 2009, with a celebration service and reception at First Pentecostal Church at 1110 Bellefonte Road in Flatwoods. The celebration will be hosted by their six children.

The couple were married on Feb. 29, 1949, in Greenup and have lived in the area since 1963.

He is retired in 2007 from Holbrook and Runyon Electronics and he served in the U.S. Army Signal Corp.

She is the former Dorothy Adams and she retired in 2002 from Dottie’s Discount Carpet Store, which she owned and operated. She is an award-winning poet and a longtime member and past president of the Flatwoods Poetry Society. She is also the author of one novel called “Somewhere Along the Way,” and the author of two books of poetry.

They are both members of First Pentecostal Church and are very active in the church, with their family and friends and they both enjoy creative writing and work as a team.

They are the parents of Robert Holbrook and wife, Dawn, of Howe, Ind., Donna Holbrook of Flatwoods, Charlotte Runyon and her husband, Bill, of Russell, Debbie Johnson and her husband, Rick, of Raceland, Barbara Rigsby and her husband, Donnie of Russell and Betty Johnson and her husband, Ronnie of Flatwoods.

They have 10 grandchildren, Christina Holbrook, Billy Holbrook, Dustin Holbrook, William Runyon, Bobby Gene Johnson, Trista Opell, Brooke Ratliff, Jason Ratliff, Autumn Johnson and Erin Johnson; and 11 great-grandchildren, Greta Marie Runyon, Austin Johnson, Jenna Johnson, Caleb Ratliff, Logan Zane Ratliff, Jordan Finfrock, Riley Finfrock, Cadin Holbrook, Macy Jane Holbrook, Josh Suttles and Erin Suttles.
