Mr. and Mrs. Todd M. Ward celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 24.
Todd Ward and the former Carol Sue Holbrook were married Jan. 24, 1963, by the Rev. William Stratton at Louisa United Methodist Church. Their wedding occurred during one of the worst weather events of the decade, with a record low temperature of 26 degrees below zero and 6 inches of ice and snow. The couple say they were “lucky to get married despite the cold circumstances.” At the wedding, the organ froze, the cake froze and most of the guests could not get to the ceremony because of the inclement weather.
Mrs. Ward is a retired teacher with the Lawrence County, Ky., school system. She is the daughter of the late Roy and Victoria Smith Holbrook. Mr. Ward is a retired attorney. He is the son of the late Lonnie and Ertle Kitchen Ward.
They are the parents of Christi Ward Tillett of Paducah, Kimber Ward of Denver and Melissa Shapaka of Louisa. They have eight grandchildren.
The Wards will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends this summer.
