Ralph and Sally Alta Caldwell McDowell celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 8, 2009.
The couple were married on Aug. 6, 1959, at Oakland Avenue Baptist Church in Catlettsburg.
He is retired from PPG Industries.
She is music director at First Baptist Church in Ashland and former owner of Sally’s Restaurant in Ashland.
They are members of First Baptist Church in Ashland.
They enjoy spending time with their family and friends.
They are parents of Cathy McDowell of South Point and Mitchell and Paula McDowell of Ashland. They have one grandchild, Tiffany Vassar, and one great-grandchild, Destinee Rearden.
There was a surprise celebration at the Christian Life Center in Ashland, with 184 in attendance. Their son and daughter sang a duet, “Love Me Tender,” and their pastor sang “Unforgettable” during the cutting of the cake; a slide show of the couple’s memories was shown.
