James Donald “Duck” and JoAnn Coffey Rakes celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 15, 2009, with family, and with their church family on Aug. 22, 2009.
The late Rev. Frank Standifer married the couple on Aug. 15, 1959, at the Catlettsburg Church of God.
He is the son of the late John and Ethel Rakes. He worked as an ironworker, Boyd County Deputy Sheriff and was retired from Johnson’s All-Star Dairy.
She is the daughter of the late Wm. Clyde and Virginia Leedy Coffey. She is a registered nurse, worked at KDMC Emergency Department and retired from AK Steel Medical Department.
They enjoy spending time with their family and friends, fishing and are active members of the Catlettsburg Church of God.
They are the proud parents of Bill (Mendy) Rakes and Joyce (Allen) Boggs, all of Ashland and they also have five wonderful grandchildren, Kyle, Corie and Seth Rakes and Krista and Ryan Counts.
