Louisa receives check for $1M

Stimulus money will be used for sewer projects

LOUISA — Rep. Rocky Adkins, (D-Sandy Hook), and Sen. Walter Blevins, (D-West Liberty), presented the Louisa City Council with a $1,050,000 check to complete the sewer project at Meadowbrook and the Berg.

Funds came from President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, also referred to as the Obama Stimulus Plan, which is designed to improve infrastructure throughout the United States while creating much needed jobs to jump start our staggering economy.

“Of the $3 billion in stimulus funds Kentucky received, $71 million is designated for water and sewer projects,” said Rep. Adkins. “I am delighted that this project, which we submitted for consideration several months ago, has been approved and work will begin Oct. 1st.”

“I want to thank Governor Beshear and President Obama for making this stimulus money available and thank the community for developing such a good proposal,” said Sen. Blevins. “I am elated we were able to secure the money for this project.”

Water and sewer projects have been a priority for Rep. Adkins throughout his 23 years in office.

“People in urban areas just don’t understand how important these water and sewer projects are to rural Kentucky,” said Rep. Adkins. “They take clean drinking water for granted while we have to plan and provide funding to build the miles and miles of water and sewer lines we so desperately need and deserve.

“This infusion of stimulus money will help us get closer to our goal of seeing that every Eastern Kentuckian has access to adequate water and sewer lines.”
