Stone Mountain property not for sale

Stone Mountain still standing

OLIVE HILL — The Stone Mountain Dataplex property is not being sold and Global Data Corporation is not shutting down operations in Olive Hill, according to the company’s attorney Mike Fox.

“Global Data Corporation has not placed the Stone Mountain property for sale,” Fox said, explaining the misunderstanding was published based on three Internet links regarding the property.

The first of those links, he said, was posted without permission from officials at Stone Mountain and offered a single building.

“It had been discussed, but there was no listing agreement,” Fox said.

The two remaining links were sites to lease space within the data storage facility, Fox said.

“Those have been online, I think, for two years,” he said.

Fox said the bottom line is the rumors about Global Data Corporation “packing their bags,” simply aren’t true.

“They are not heading out of town,” Fox said, later adding, “It is true one of their two offices has closed. There was no reason for them to have two offices and they streamlined their operation just as so many other businesses are doing right now.”

Global Data Corporation officials hope to continue working with the contractors who worked at the site of a former limestone mine in the Lawton community under Womack development, Fox said. Legal negotiations regarding the bankruptcy of Womack Development remain unsettled, he said.

While unaware of any construction ongoing at the Stone Mountain site at the moment, Fox said Global Data has “full intention to stay and resume work.” The attorney declined to speculate about when work may resume at the former mine, saying that matter “is related to negotiations with investors.”
