Sun Chemical workers to be furloughed

Wurtland — Sun Chemical will temporarily close its pigment plant here to adjust to inventory.

The company cited how the slow economy has negatively impacted the demand for the pigments Sun Chemical manufactures.

As a result, plan operations will be suspended on June 1.

The 19 employees working at the Wurtland plant will be furloughed until the plant reopens. Assuming the inventories will have been reduced sufficiently, it is expected that the plant will reopen in the third quarter of 2009.

As inventory requirements change, employees on furlough will be brought back as needed.

Until then, the furloughed employees will be eligible for unemployment.
