The gallery is in Suite 206, on the second floor of the historic Camayo Arcade, 1536 Winchester Ave., in downtown Ashland, and is home to working artists Gail Kirtz and Rodney Chapman, both of whom work in various media and offer their original art and prints for sale.
The public is invited to view the works and meet the artists on First Friday Artwalk, May 5, from 5 to 9 p.m., and on Second Look Saturday, May 6, from noon to 4:00 p.m.

ASHLAND AREA ART GALLERY
Wheel-thrown pottery classes — Taught by master potter Bill Meadows. Eight-week sessions are ongoing on Monday and Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Beginning and advanced students welcome.
Classes are in the Potter’s Loft on the second floor of the Ann Davis Gallery, 1516 Winchester Ave., in Ashland. The studio is equipped with eight wheels and one for demonstrating.
The Potter’s Loft is also open on First Friday’s for the students work to be viewed.
Meadows has 38 years of teaching experience from middle school through college. For 27 years, he operated the Ceramic Studio at the Huntington Museum of Art. Meadows is a production potter selling work through regional galleries such as Tamarack and crafts shows.

“C.I. Haeberle Medical Exhibit” — Step into the world of health care circa 1940s and 1950s when late night house calls were made into homes from medical facilities and payment was made with chickens and produce.
“Frank and Margaret Adkins Aviation Exhibit” — Visit this exciting ongoing exhibit in the museum’s Discovery Center, which features airplanes, a wind tunnel and hands-on activities focusing on the history of flight.
“Poage’s Landing: Life on the River” — Learn about how people live and the jobs they do along the Ohio River in this ongoing exhibit. Visitors can pilot “Little Joe,” an actual towboat. Explore the streetscape of Poage’s Landing and imagine yourself to be a banker, a grocer, a chef, a doctor or an EMT!
“Country Music Heritage Hall” — Explore the memorabilia and biographies of several well-known country music artists who came from towns either on or near U.S. 23. Learn more about Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Ricky Skaggs, Hylo Brown, Billy Ray Cyrus, Patty Loveless, Tom T. Hall, and Naomi, Wynonna and Ashley Judd. Visit the Music Quilt, the interactive sound sculpture where everyone can be a musician!
ZOOMzone — Based on the popular PBS children’s show “ZOOM,” this exhibit gives young visitors a chance to tackle hands-on challenges that require them to explore science and engineering principles.
Other stimulating and exciting exhibits include “Dig Archeology!,” “School Daze,” the one-room schoolhouse, and the “Music Quilt,” the interactive sound sculpture.

The Pendleton Art Center is sponsoring a Derby Hat Contest at its First Friday Opening. The contest is open to anyone 18 and older. Prizes will be awarded for Win, Place, and Show. Lily May Ledford was a legend of country music. Born in Powell County in 1917, Ledford founded the first all-female string band, the Coon Creek Girls, and starred on national radio for two decades. The Coon Creek Girls disbanded in 1957 and Ledford died in 1985, but her spirit and her music live on. Ben Hamar, a singer song writer from Holland now residing in Tampa, Fla., will perform Sunday at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. at Jeanettes Creek Christian Baptist Church, located at Junior Furnace and Powellsville Road in Franklin Furnace, Ohio.
Hamar is a former member of The Grasshoppers, a rock group with the 1968 hit song “Sugar and Spice.”

Raceland Worthington High’s Drama Club will perform Shakespeare’s, “Love’s Labour’s Lost”, for the community on May 21 at 2 and 4:30 p.m. Cost is $4 for adults and $3 for children. The play will be in the high school cafeteria. The performance is dedicated to the late teacher, Tim Miller, and the soon to open Cultural Arts Center at RWHS.
