I thank the Russell academic team for their hard work at the state completion in Louisville. It paid off with an overall seventh place, even though the entire team could not participate. This shows the students are well schooled and work hard.
I also thank James Arthur for taking over as the interim coach of the high school team. Mr. Arthur spent many hours helping get the team ready. He recruited several extra tutors to help the week before competition. Most of these tutors went to Louisville to help out. Mr. Arthur should be hired as coach of the team. He knows how to motivate students.
I also thank the parents of the team members. They know how hard their students work. Any bending of the rules was not done by the students. The students were the ones who suffered, but they held their heads high and competed well.
John Jones, Russell
I thank the very nice lady who found my son’s cell phone and called the ICE number to return it. She hadseen him drop it and tried to track him down to give it to him but he was gone before she got back. She called me to let me know that she had the cell phone.
I met her on Belmont Street, and she returned the phone to me. I wish I had gotten her name so everyone would know there are some honest people left. She knows who she is, nd I thank her very much for being honest.
Brenda Blair, Ashland
