Community Hospice offers many thanks for the success of our Spring Style Show and Luncheon.

Miss Kentucky Emily Cox did an outstanding job as our mistress of ceremonies. Other contributors were Copy Collection, Merle Norman of Ironton, Bellefonte Country Club, South Ashland Florist and Greenhouse, Avon representative Heather Hiscock, and Linda Leach/Triple L Enterprise.

We want people to know about our recent experience at King’s Daughters Medical Center. Our daughter, Amanda, was expecting her first child in April. Upon completion of her shift at KDMC one night, co-workers told her she didn’t look well. Her blood pressure was dangerously high.

She was admitted. The doctor on duty, Dr. Dotson, said the baby should be delivered quickly. An emergency C-section was done.

We appreciate Dr. Dotson explaining everything to us. Amanda’s regular doctor, Dr. Fredrick, was just as compassionate and caring.

Amanda spent nine nights in the hospital. These nurses provided excellent care: Jennifer Miller, Floye Sherman, Leslie Wright, Kathy Spence, Sherie Knapp, Judy York, Char Love, Kristin Wright, Janet Hall, Jenny Conley, Pam Banks, Cindy Deerfield.

We thank J.D. and Robert for not allowing Amanda to go hom that first night. Amanda and Christopher are now doing well at home.

I thank my sponsors, Matt and Linda Dalton, and their area businesses for their role in the 2009 Community Benefit Volleyball Tournament. I also thank all of the volunteers who donated their time to help make the tournament a huge success.

Each year we try to make the tournament a little better, and with all the help and sponsorships, I think we’ve succeeded! As we think about our tournament motto — “You can’t help everybody everywhere but you can help sombody somewhere” — we’re reminded that a little effort goes a long way when you’re helping somebody in need.

I also thank Enterprise Baptist Church in Westwood for use of its facilities for the tournament.

I thank the gentleman who returned my purse that I had left at the Cannonsburg Wal-Mart. The purse was left in my buggy in the parking lot.

Upon returning to Wal-Mart and not locating the purse, my friend suggsted I go back in the store and ask about it. When I did, the lady who checked me out said she was glad I came back because some gentleman had returned my purse.

Although I don’t know his name, I thank the man very much. It’s good to know there are still some honest people.
