On behalf of South Shore’s First Christian Church, we thank those who helped make the visitation and funeral service for Zach Meenach so uplifting.

We thank the South Shore Police Department, the Greenup County Sheriff’s Department and the Kentucky State Police for traffic control and the Senior Citizens of South Shore, the Greenup County Football Boosters, the Sunshine Methodist ladies, and others who brought food.

We thank the members of First Christian Church for making sure everything Brian, Ruth, Katie, Luke and Dillon needed during this difficult time was made available to them. We thank the Greenup County schools for all they did.

We constantly hear about the bad things, but from early Thursday morning until late Sunday evening, we saw what truly makes our nation great. The people of Greenup County are a great and loving people.

On behalf of King’s Daughters Medical Center, Oncology Services Department, I thank the many volunteers who made this year’s 22nd Annual National Cancer Survivors Day celebration a memorable event for over 400 cancer survivors and guests.

The generosity of many organizations and individuals made the event a success, including Katrina Barker, speaker; Chrissy Dillow, marketing director and other staff members at KYOVA Mall, merchants at KYOVA Mall that donated gifts (Custom Metal Creations, RJ Kahuna’s, Callihans, Wilma’s, Treasure Chest, Uniforms, Inc, Knot Just Pretzels, Sears, Elder Beerman, Mastercuts, Phoenix Theater, BonWorth, Angel Cards & Gifts); Drs. Jeff Lopez and Terry Justice and their staff at Tri-State Regional Cancer Center; Drs. David Goebel and Mary Edgecomb and their staff at Tri-State Hematology/Oncology; Dr. Vinay Vermani and staff at Tri-State Cancer & Blood Specialists; the many departments and volunteers at KDMC; Haute Stuff Catering and Chef Bill Schaefer.

On June 6, Applebee’s hosted a pancake breakfast to benefit the Ashland Animal Rescue Fund (AARF). Proceeds from the ticket and raffle sales and donations will go directly to the costs of spaying/neutering, vaccinations, surgeries, other medical care, food and supplies for the animals we save.

AARF’s work requires the dedication of volunteers who try to find suitable homes necessary for the animals’ welfare. In the meantime, these animals are given medical treatment, usually at the Ashland Animal Clinic, before being transported to their new (or foster) home. Since January of this year, AARF has saved over 100 dogs.

We thank Applebee’s for helping finance our work, as well as Wal-Mart, who allowed us to sell tickets. We continue to need support by volunteering and/or or donating. Donations are accepted through our Web site — www.petfinder.com/shelters/KY314.htm — or at Ashland Animal Clinic.

Ashland Moose Lodge No. 892 thanks those who helped make our fundraiser on May 30 a success: Chapter 2382 of Women of the Moose; the Texas Roadhouse, Golden Corral, La Finca’s, Fairfield Inn and all members of the lodge.

This year Oakview Elementary students decided to take on a special project for the tenth consecutive year. They collected items for the animals at our local animal shelter. The collected items included virtually anything that the shelter could use!

We thank everyone who helped our students with this project. Thanks go to students, parents, volunteers who helped pick up donations and deliver the items to the shelter, and the many generous people who dropped off donations at our school.

The children hope their efforts helped to make life a little brighter for the animals at the shelter and reminded everyone of the importance of being a responsible pet partner. You can help the animals at the shelter as well with donations of your own. Even better, have you considered adding to your family? There are lots of “little (and big!) someones” at the shelter waiting for a loving home!

The family of Kenny Lee (Tom) Noe expresses it heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all the friends, neighbors and churches for their prayers, food, flowers and help during our time of sorrow over the loss of a loved one.

We thnak Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, the doctors and staff, and all who who helped and were so kind to Tom and the family. We also thank Patton Construction Co. and our local fire department at Burnaugh. What a wonderful hospital, fire department and group of friends we have.
