Words of Thanks — 09/05/06

There was a benefit Aug. 25 at Frogtown USA to raise money for Shop with a Cop and FCI-Summit’s Children’s Christmas Charity. It was to honor Chuck and Denise Leadingham, an Ashland police officer and his wife, who died in a motorcycle accident on Aug. 30, 2008. I thank Mark Rutledge, Frogtown owner, and his wife Darlene for supporting this event.

Although rain prevented the ride, I thank Frank and Debbie Jones for coordinating the ride route and Greenup VFW Post 1168 for wanting to host our riders.

A huge thank you goes to Sue Dowdy of the Ashland Vistors Bureau, who helped get Stephen Salyers to perform. He and his band volunteered to do it again next year. We also thank Last Chance and Burning Creek for performing.

Many other individuals and businesses helped, but space does not allow us to list them. We appreciate their support.

The Shelter of Hope residents and Board of Directors thank the Ashland Boyd County Disc Golf Club organization for collecting donations for us. Participants at the Aug. 26 tournament took the time in the midst of their tournament to collect funds for Shelter of Hope. Not only is this club an advocate for disc golf as a family sport, but it is very generous when it comes to giving a “hand up” to so many homeless families in the Ashland area!

A main focus for Shelter of Hope is to help families stay together by giving temporary shelter and assisting them with locating permanent housing. The ABC Disc Golf Club helps us accomplish this goal through their selfless generosity!

Thank you, ABC Disc Golf Club, for making a difference in so many people's lives!

Debbie Sivis, Executive director, Shelter of Hope

Ritzy’s, Jenkins Fenstermaker, Julian Saad, Jim’s Spaghetti, Rocco’s Ristorante, Savannah’s, Starlight Behavioral Services and The Independent

We appreciate their generosity and support of our event!

Deidre R. Bradley, PHR, Vice President, Membership, Tri-State SHRM

The Ashland Tennis Center had a fundraiser Aug. 29 to raise money for much needed repairs. Thanks to the efforts of Missy Stone, coordinator, more than $7,500 was raised.

There was a dinner and auction. Missy spent countless hours of her time and money to beat the bushes for donations. A few generous donors made donations of hundreds of dollars and Jerry Groce, tennis center director, also made some very nice donations that brought some nice bids.

There are too many restaurants and people to thank all those who made it possible with their great donations. There were some generous bidders who made it fun.

Good food, good friends, great desserts and really nice gifts made it a great time for all who came out. Congratulations to Missy and her helpers, Lee Ann, Peggy and Tracy. Maybe some of those unable to attend will make donations anyway.

On Aug. 5, our father, Bob J. Faulkner, went to be with the Lord. We, the family, thank all the people who poured out their hearts to us in this time of need.

We especially thank King’s Daughters Medical Center and the nurses on 4-B for their care that was given to our father, and Hospice for its tender loving care for our father and for our family. Many thanks also are extended to Brush Creek Baptist Church for all their love and support and to all who sent flowers, food and donations that were given to charties
