Blame Democrats for high prices

I’m sure almost everyone is aware of the rise in grocery and gasoline prices in recent months. Those blaming the oil refineries and the grocers are looking in the wrong direction. Instead, look at the Democrats who are in control in Washington, D.C.

Barack Obama knows nothing about economics. You cannot flood this country with worthless stimulus dollars and expect it not to affect the value of the U.S. dollar. The value of the dollar has declined by 18 percent compared to the euro. This has happened within the last eight to nine months. We can expect this decline to continue.

There has never been a government-managed program that stayed within the cost that was intended. The takeover of our health care system by the Washington Democrats will be no exception.

This takeover is to be paid for by taking $450 billion from Medicare and yet those over 65 are still supposed to receive medical care.

You can’t help the poor by destroying the rich. The Democratic Party would like to tax those who have been successful to encourage class hatred. This would help Democrats get the votes of the poor.

The Washington Democrats now appear to be leaning toward stopping the use of coal to generate electricity. If this happens, millions of families will not be able to pay their electric bills and thousands of workers will be out of their jobs. This should not be allowed to happen.

At the present rate of spending by the Democrats in Washington and the decline in the value of the dollar, the interest on the U.S. debt soon will equal the total revenue of the government. When that happens, the government will be bankrupt.

Responsible citizens should work toward replacing those now in power.

More adoptive families needed

November is National Adoption Month, a time to raise awareness about children waiting to be adopted and to celebrate adoptive families.

More than 129,000 children in U.S. foster care are waiting to be adopted. The parents of these children have had their parental rights terminated through no fault of their children. The children long for what should fundamentally be theirs: A forever family.

These children sometimes wait five years or more to be adopted, which can be a lifetime to a child. Each year, one of five (26,517 in 2006) children waiting to be adopted from foster care turns 18 and leaves the foster care system. You are never too old for a family. Are you too old for yours?

Forty percent of American adults, or 81.5 million people, have considered adopting a child, according to the National Adoption Attitudes Survey. If only one in 500 of these adults adopted, every waiting child in foster care would have a forever family.

To meet some of the children waiting to be adopted, visit www. adoptuskids.org. If you can’t commit to becoming a foster or adoptive family, there are many other ways you can help.

Ask your faith community to dedicate a weekend to raising awareness about Kentucky’s children in foster care, volunteer at For Jamie’s Sake or a local agency that works with youth in foster care and most importantly, pray. Everyone can do something to make a difference in the lives of these precious children.
