Giving Tree turns words into action
Mother Teresa said, “The most terrible poverty is loneliness and the feeling of being unloved.”
Can you imagine the magnitude of this statement if you are a little child who finds nothing under the tree from Santa?
As Christians, we all know the true meaning of Christmas and, try as we might, we want all children to understand the miracle of the birth of our Lord but that’s difficult to do when you are little and don’t understand why Santa did not come.
The Giving Tree is an opportunity to put your faith in the season to work. This program is designed to help those in need have a Merry Christmas by providing them with presents and a hot holiday meal.
How many Boyd County residents are we talking about? CAReS registered 641 families with 886 children. That’s a tremendous number to provide for and a direct reflection of our current economy.
You will find the Giving Tree in various locations throughout Boyd County. Please look for it as usual at the Ashland Town Center, near the food court. Ambiance Salon, The Army Navy Store, Ashland Sporting Goods, Chic-Fil-A, Kroger Midtown, Outback Steakhouse and Starbucks have recognized that many families will find gifts and holiday food a luxury as they struggle to put gas in their cars, everyday food on their tables and keep the home fires burning. You will find Giving Trees at these locations as well.
If you find you are in a position to make a child’s Christmas dreams come true, please stop by one of the Giving Tree locations. Choose a name and go shopping!
You will be blessed for your generosity and holiday spirit.
Kathy Schneider, CAReS, Ashland
