ASHLAND — Thank you to Frank Branham and Kelly Harper for allowing the Catlettsburg Branch of Boyd County Public Library to use the Russell E. Compton Civic Center and Train Museum for our summer reading program “Make a Splash!” this year.

We were both inside and out on the platform, and that gave us more room to do stories, crafts, and games with 15 8- to 12-year-olds.

Lisa Epling, Catlettsburg Branch Manager

On July 10, the first annual Mark Mautz Memorial Softball Tournament benefiting children in the Boyd County foster care system was at Southside Park in Ashland.

The tournament was a great success and would not have thrived without the assistance from the following agencies and individuals: MTS, Kroger’s, Wal-Mart, the City of Ashland, MonnCrete, Robin Mautz, Kate Marshall, Rhonda Hall, Chuck Williams, Kim Howard and Lee Chester. Thank you to all of the teams that participated and made this a special occasion.
