NASHVILLE — An Ashland-born entertainer has been honored for her musical accomplishments.
Sherri Lynn Rakes of Olive Hill, formerly of Ashland, won Platinum Female Artist/Writer Award for 2009 at the Entertainer Indi-Association Awards Show on June 27.
Rakes had received a letter from E.I.A CEO Cliff Ayers telling her she’d been nominated for the 2009 Diamond Female Award, but at the ceremony she learned she had earned a higher award.
“She does it all,” Ayers said of Rakes. “A very smart lady. A lot of times people are talented but they don’t have personality, She does. She sold me.” Ayers also offered Lynn a job working as his assistant with The American Big Band Hall of Fame in Palm Beach. Ayers and Rakes are organizing an American Big Band Talent Search, in which five bands will be chosen to be inducted into the hall of fame.
Rakes has sung backgroud vocals for Joe Diffie and at The Nashville Palace and John A’s. She co-hosted the Record Row Review TV Show with Cliff Ayers. In Ashland, she had a television show in 1999 called “The Vision” and has performed at various fundraisers, including those at The Ryman Auditorium, WTCR, Fort Falls, National Guard Armory in West Virginia and at Poage Landing Days. Rakes plans to go on the road with Chuck Kesilman in September.
Rakes’ current single, “His Will Be Done,’ is at number on on Reverbnation and is available on iTunes, Amazon and on CD on her Web site. She also is writing a book that is expected to be published in the next three months and a CD titled “Stand!” that is expected out soon.
