MOREHEAD — An art exhibition titled “A Natural Order: Artists Exploring Artifice and the Organic,” featuring work by contemporary American artists from across the country, will be on display in the main gallery of the Claypool-Young Art Building at Morehead State University from Aug. 29 through Sept. 20.
The exhibition opens with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with refreshments and live music performed by Carmen and Don Rogers.
Jennifer Reis, gallery director, along with MSU’s Gallery Committee, selected seven artists to exhibit their work based on their interest in drawing from natural to created works that manipulate and reconstruct landscape, biology, and interactions between man and other worldly creatures.
The artists exhibiting paintings, prints, drawings, fiber, mixed media work, and sculpture are: Rachel B. Abrams, Brooklyn, N.Y.; Lauren Lipinski Eisen, Milliken, Colo.; Susan Maakestad, Memphis, Tenn.; Michael McFalls, Columbus, Ga.; Tricia McKellar, Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; Tom Rice, Kalamazoo, Mich.; and Leisel Whitlock, Chicago, Ill.
In association with the exhibition, MSU’s Department of Art, with support from the Office of Communications and Marketing, will host two of the artists, McFalls and Rice, for campus events.
McFalls is a mixed media sculptor whose works explore the modification and human impact on animals and the earth. He will present two artist lectures on Sept. 20 at 10:20 a.m. and 12:40 p.m., both in 111 Claypool-Young.
Rice, a painter who creates large scale works that focus on mapping out the landscape, will visit MSU on Sept. 27 to give two artist lectures, also set for 10:20 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. in 111 Claypool-Young. For more information, call Reis at (606) 783-5446.
The main gallery in the Claypool-Young Art Building features contemporary art for the Morehead State University community as well as the University’s service region of East Kentucky. The gallery is open weekdays, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or by appointment.
