Local library finalist for grant
ASHLAND - The Boyd County Public Library was chosen as a finalist in the Out-of-the Box Marketing Contest sponsored by Gale, part of Cengage Learning and a leading publisher of research and reference sources for libraries, schools and businesses.
The library’s program called “Seeking Lost Love” would send parodies of personal ads targeting young singles who often don’t use the library.
Tactics included creating magnetic decals that say “For a Good Time Call” with the library’s logo and phone number and placing them in restrooms of local bars, clubs and restaurants; placing personal ads in the classifieds for “Library Seeking New Readers,” as well as creating Match.com accounts to match readers’ interests with compatible books.
The winner of the contest was Auraria Library in Denver. It received $5,000 to implement the marketing idea.
Mickey Mouse birthday planned
GREENUP - The Greenup County Public Library will mark Mickey Mouse’s birthday at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 by making cards and hats and watching “Mickey’s Magical Christmas — Snowed In at the House of Mouse.”
Refreshments will be served. The party is limited to 24; to register, call (606) 473-6514.
The library will show “Brave” at 1 p.m. Nov. 24. Free soft drinks and popcorn will be served. Refills will be available for a small fee.
