A valentine dance is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at the Junior League Ballroom, 617 Ninth Ave.
Dick Newman is host. Admission is $10. Attendees may bring a treat and receive a chance for the door prize.
Marathon
winners named

The winners of the January hand and foot marathon at the Russell Senior Center were: first — Shirley Gearheart; second — Harry Thomas; third — Carol Peyton.
The next marathon will be Feb. 25.
Songwriting
contest open
GATLINBURG
The 2013 Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival, scheduled for Aug. 15 through 18, is accepting entries for the festival's annual songwriting competition.
Entrants could have their songs showcased before a panel of music industry professionals, including publishers, label executives, radio program directors and award-winning songwriters.
Songs may be entered in six different categories, including bluegrass, country, folk, gospel/inspirational, pop/rock and lyrics only. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in each of the five categories. A grand prize and listener’s choice also will be awarded. Finalists will perform in a showcase Aug. 17 at which time the grand prize winner will be chosen.

Kentucky state parks will offer special events and packages for Valentine’s Day.
‰Carter Caves State Resort Park in Olive Hill will present a buffet dinner Feb. 15 and 16, followed by a comic performance by Bil Lepp, an internationally known storyteller and humorist whose style has been described as a satisfying blend of Bill Cosby and Jeff Foxworthy. ‰Greenbo Lake State Resort Park will offer the dinner show “Marriage, Mob and Murder Dinner” at 7 p.m. Saturday. The show is an interactive murder mystery performed by Murder and Merriment Interactive Murder Mystery Theatre Troupe. Tickets are $40 a person for the dinner and show.
