Mummies subject of giant-format film at The Clay Center Saturday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A triple threat lurks at The Clay Center in the form of ancient Egypt.

A new giant-screen film will debut at the center on Saturday with an exhibit and gift-shop offerings with the same theme.

‰The film “Mummies: Secrets of the Pharaohs” will be shown through March, with daily shows Wednesday through Sunday.

Hours are noon, 3 and 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1, 3 and 4 p.m. on Sundays.

Narrated by actor Christopher Lee, the film describes how mummies were embalmed and where they were hidden through the work of Egyptologists Dr. Bob Brier and Dr. Zahi Hawas and DNA scientist Angelique Corthals.

‰The exhibit “Lost Kingdoms of the Nile: Nubian Treasures from the Museum of Fine Arts Boston” will be open through April 11.

The exhibit contains 200 artifacts in gold, silver, ivory, ceramic, stone and wood dating to 760 to 656 B.C.

Gallery hours are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The gallery is closed Monday and Tuesday. Admission is $7 for adults, $5.50 for children and free to members of The Clay Center.

‰The gift shop will feature Nubian and Egyptian items during the run of the film and the exhibit. Items include jewelry boxes, umbrellas and books.
