Veterans Day concert scheduled

MAYSVILLE — The sixth annual Veterans Day concert, “A Star Spangled Celebration,” will be at 6:30 p.m. at Fields Auditorium on the campus of Maysville Community and Technical College on Nov. 11.

Guest host will be Ashland native Todd Dykes, news anchor on WLWT TV Channel 5.

The first half of show will feature great musical legends, including Sam Huff, former member of the showband Hot Wax; Rachel Rogers Blackwell, winner of “The Next Girl Singer” contest doing Rosemary Clooney and Tammy Wynette; Barbie Zweigart, who will star next spring in the play “Always Patsy Cline” at the Washington Opera House.

There also is Elvis impersonator Bill Kelly of Lexington.

The second half of the show will open with the Golden Chords and their revue of 1970s music, including Barry Manilow, Fifth Dimension and Abba, followed by an appearance by Miss Kentucky 2009 Miss Emily Cox, who will present a version of “My Old Kentucky Home.” The finale will feature Judy Gallenstein, Mary Middleton, Mike Huff and the 299th Chemical Color guard and the introduction of all armed forces groups in the audience.

Doors open at 6 p.m. Parking and admission are free, but a donation is requested.
