ASHLAND — Sewing classes planned in March

WURTLAND

 Master Volunteers in Clothing Construction will offer free basic sewing classes for four weeks in March.

Classes will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 5, 12, 19 and 29 at the Greenup County Extension Office, 35 Wurtland Ave.

Participants will learn basic techniques, such as hemming, zipper application and use of their sewing machine and accessories. Supplies to bring include sewing machine with instruction manual (machine must be in good working condition) and sewing supplies, such as thread, bobbin for machine, tape measure, pins, pencil, zigzag foot, if you have one. 

Instructors will be Joan Litteral, Claudine Williamson and Rita Spence.

Family movie to be shown Sunday

CANNONSBURG       

Boyd County Public Library will host a free showing of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days” at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kyova Branch in the Kyova Mall.

Some refreshments are provided and additional snacks can be purchased.



Tea, fashion show offered

GREENUP

A Love Thy Neighbor tea and fashion show is scheduled for 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Greenup County Extension office.

Live music will be provided by Sasha Collette. A bests hat contest is planned.

Donations of food and money will be accepted to benefit the Greenup and South Shore Helping Hands.

Capitol train trip

slated for March

HUNTINGTON

The Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society will offer an escorted trip to Washington, D.C., by private rail cars March 24 through 27.

Departure will be in Huntington with pickup in Charleston. The trip includes three nights’ first-class lodging at Holiday Inn Express, four breakfasts, two lunches, four dinners, and transportation in Washington for various tours.

Double occupancy price is $769; single occupancy price is $869.

Logo contest

under way

GRAYSON

Grayson Memory Days committee is seeking a logo for this year’s event and will sponsor a contest.

The theme, “Tradition and Pride,” and the words “Grayson Memory Days 2013” must appear in the logo.

Works must be submitted in black and white on 8-inch square paper using any medium and must be the original work of the artist; it may not be computer generated. Entries become property of Grayson Area Chamber of Commerce.

Deadline is 4 p.m. March 4. Winner will receive a $25 prize and other items.
