Quads for a Cure set for Sunday
HANGING ROCK - Quads for a Cure will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Wayne National Forest, Hanging Rock Trails, Hanging Rock Village.
A $10 donation will be taken at registration with all proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.
Participants must be 16 years old or older, have an Ohio State sticker and have a trail permit, which can be purchased at The Red Brick Oven or Hops in Hanging Rock for $12. There will be a bake sale, pizza and a split the pot.

Comedy dinner features Bil Lepp
OLIVE HILL - Carter Caves State Resort Park will be hosting the Bil Lepp “Liar” Comedy Dinner Theater on Aug. 7 and 8.
This will be a night of food and comedy from the “Side Splitting Funny Man.”
Bil Lepp, a preacher and five-time champion of the West Virginia Liars Contest, will be on stage for an evening of entertainment.
The cost for the buffet dinner and show is $34.95 plus tax per person and $29 plus tax per child 12 years and younger.

Repairs on Ky. 1093 to begin Monday
ASHLAND - Kentucky Transportation Cabinet contractors will be working alongside Ky. 1093 (Saint Christopher Drive) between Diederich Boulevard and U.S. 23 in Greenup County beginning Monday to stabilize the roadway’s embankment. Work will continue through Friday.
Directional signage will be posted during the work. Motorists should watch for flaggers, be prepared for traffic pattern changes during daytime work hours — 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. — and allow extra time to reach destinations.
Road work is subject to change depending upon weather conditions. Please “Drive Smart” in work zones and remain aware of workers and construction equipment at all times.
Appalachian tales workshop Saturday
FRANKFORT - Mitch Barrett, a performer, storyteller and songwriter from Berea, will demonstrate his command of traditional Appalachian stories and songs during a workshop Saturday at the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History in Frankfort. The workshop begins at 2 p.m.
This story-to-song workshop is the first in a series of concerts and workshops related to “Made to be Played: Traditional Art of Kentucky Luthiers” an exhibition dedicated to showcasing the art of people who make or repair stringed instruments. The exhibition is presented by the Kentucky Folklife Program, a partnership of the Kentucky Historical Society and the Kentucky Arts Council.
Admission, which includes all exhibitions on the Kentucky Historical Society history campus is $4 for adults, $2 for youth ages 6 to 18 and complimentary for children 5 and younger. KHS members receive complimentary admission.
Direct mail talk set for Monday
ASHLAND - A workshop titled Direct Mail Gets “Direct Results” is being jointly offered by the Morehead State University/Ashland Small Business Development Center and the Ashland Alliance from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Monday in the Jesse Stuart Foundation. The instructor will be Connie Jacoby of the U.S. Postal Service.
In this session, participants will learn:
—The “basics” of direct mail
—How to use direct mail to acquire and retain customers
—Direct Mail Association’s statistics on the value of direct mail and the various formats available to marketers using direct mail.
—How to use the USPS.com Web site to design and mail a professional direct mail campaign.
—How to create and mail a direct mail campaign from your desktop without ever stepping foot in the Post Office.
Postage payment methods, discounts, and mail piece design will also be covered. There will be time for questions/answers.
