ASHLAND —
Considered one of the finest festivals to find unusual gifts, witness a collection of classic cars, entertain and amuse children, learn about local history and hear some of the hottest music in the Tri-State, Poage Landing Days will kick off Friday in downtown Ashland.
The 16th annual street celebration, which has been ranked among the Top 25 downtown festivals in Kentucky, will begin with top-notch entertainment at 11:30 a.m. Friday with a performance by vocalist Heather May on the 15th Street stage, followed by songs from singer/songwriter Ben Robinette at noon and the Thrillbillys at 12:30 p.m.
Music on the main stage on 16th Street will get under way with Split Decision at 5:45 p.m., followed by highly improvised blues by Tim Preston & Major Mojo at 6:45, the harmony-rich sounds of duo Sister Redden Hair at 7:45, high-energy rock ‘n’ roll from Split Nixon at 8:45 and ending with a show by Chase at 9:45.
Kyle Fields will kick off the action on the 15th Street stage at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, followed by Erica Berry at noon, Katie Owens at 12:45 and Against the Grain at 1:30 p.m. Main stage entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday with Bronson Bush, followed by Tony Ramey at 8 and headliner Clay Walker at 9:15.
The annual Ed Haley Old Time Fiddle Festival and competition will be Saturday morning, with registration from 9 to noon and a free fiddle performance by contest judges at 10:30. The fiddle contest will be at 12:30 p.m.
Also Saturday, a “bigger and better” version of the annual Southern Fried Cone Fest, challenging skateboard enthusiasts to test their riding skils on a timed slalom course, will begin at 8 p.m. on 17th Street.
Sunday’s music on the 15th Street stage will begin at 11:45 a.m. with Honey Boggs, followed by Tiffany Trent at 12:30 p.m., Tim Holmes at 1:15, Glory Road at 2, Paul Callicoat & Jay Oakes at 3 and Perimeter at 4:15. Sunday’s main stage entertainment will kick off at noon with String Therapy, followed by the Joe Freeman Band at 1:30, Ned Crisp and Bottom Line at 3 and Russell Moore and IIIrd Tyme Out at 4:30.
Vendors are expected to be in place and welcoming customers Friday afternoon, and spaces for the festival’s car show are expected to fill quickly starting at the corner of 13th Street and Winchester Avenue, with a $10 registration fee for each participant.
