FLATWOODS —
A former Flatwoods resident was arrested Wednesday in Florida after authorities found a large cache of child pornography in his former residence.
James K. Raasch, 71, was apprehended in Clearwater on a warrant charging him with 1,000 counts of possession of material portraying sexual performance by a minor, Kentucky State Police at Ashland said.
The KSP said it received a report Wednesday of “numerous images” of child pornography being discovered in Raasch’s former residence on Clay Street in Flatwoods. During the course of the investigation, troopers found several thousand images in the home and in separate storage units rented by Raasch.
Investigators learned Raasch had recently moved to Florida. Local authorities there were contacted and Raasch was taken into custody.
The FBI and Flatwoods Police Department also assisted.
The investigation is ongoing by Detective Jeffrey Kelley.
Possession of matter portraying sexual performance by a minor is a Class D felony that carries a prison sentence of one to five years. If he is convicted, Raasch could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison because, under the law, Class D sentences can only be stacked to maximum of that.
It was not immediately known when Raasch would be returned to Kentucky.
