Lions to have hamburger fry
FLATWOODS - The Flatwoods Lions Club will have a hamburger fry from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Pennington’s Food Fair.
Proceeds will help defray the cost of glasses for the needy in the area.
Tip leads to drug arrest
WESTWOOD - A Boyd County man was arrested Thursday after police received a tip a drug deal was in progress at a Westwood gas station.
Terry L. Reed, 47, was arrested on charges of third-degree trafficking in a controlled substance and tampering with physical evidence. He is in the Boyd County Detention Center.
Officials with the Boyd County Sheriff’s Department said Monday the agency received a call just before 1 p.m. a drug deal was occurring at the Jane Hill Chevron in Westwood. Deputies were in the area and located two vehicles based on descriptions from the caller as they were turning onto York Street from Blackburn Avenue.
At the time of his arrest, Reed was found to be in possession of Adipex and other medications. According to police, Reed ate several pills in front of deputies before they were able to secure them.
Another individual, whose name was not released and who allegedly bought the pills from Reed, is cooperating with police. It was unclear whether that person would also face criminal charge.
State police nab fugitive
ASHLAND - Kentucky State Police in Ashland have arrested a fugitive who had been wanted on assault charges since Sunday.
Ty Jacob Doolen, 26, of Rush, was arrested Monday afternoon following a traffic stop. According to police, troopers received information Doolen was traveling in a vehicle on Ky. 1458 in the area of Ky. 5. He was arrested without incident.
Doolen was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center and faces first-degree assault charges. According to police, Doolen is charged with assaulting 31-year-old Amelia Hall, who was found unresponsive Sunday inside a home in the 10000 block of Carry Back Drive in Rush. Police responded to a 911 call and found Hall suffering from multiple injuries on various parts of her body. She was transported to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, where she was in critical condition Monday.
