IRONTON — Lane restrictions are scheduled two days next week on the Ironton-Russell Bridge for field inspections for a bridge rehabilitation project scheduled later this year.
“With the environmental documentation completed, the inspections are necessary for the consultants to finish and submit the design plans for the rehab project that we’ll be selling in the fall,” said Jim Brushart, the Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 9 deputy director.
Crews from Richland Engineering will impose lane restrictions on March 8 and 9. At least one lane of the bridge will remain open to traffic during the inspections, according to a news release.
The northbound lane of the 85-year-old bridge will be closed about noon March 8. Both lanes of traffic will be opened by 4 p.m. that day. The southbound lane will be closed from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Crews with flags will maintain traffic during the lane closures.
The department currently is planning a rehabilitation project in September expected to last several months. The project includes repairs to the grid deck and strain gage monitoring system, as well as retrofitting one pin connection and improving skid resistance on the bridge, according to the release.
