All precincts but one vote ‘yes’

‰Lone station in Boyd was Carp: 17-16 vote

CATLETTSBURG — Not only did the vote to allow restaurants to serve alcohol pass by a 2-1 margin in Boyd County Tuesday, but the issue won out in every precinct but one.

That lone station of Boyd’s 47 precincts was Carp, where the “No” votes prevailed by a single tally, 17-16.

The law, which passed with 67 percent of the vote overall, will allow restaurants that seat at least 100 people and make at least 70 percent of revenue from food sales to serve liquor by the drink.

In the larger precincts, the “Yes” votes typically outnumbered the opposition by a significant margin.

The largest victory came in Meads II and Fannin I precincts, where the measure passed three-to-one, with a 244-80 vote at the former spot, and 333-109 at the latter, according to unofficial results from the Boyd County Clerk’s office. That margin was nearly repeated at Poage, which had a 150-52 vote.

Other key precincts were Rockdale-Summit, where the measure passed 260-111, and Greenhill, which finished 274-113.

Meads I reported results of 187-91, and the tally at Garner was 218-85. Cannonsburg approved the new law by a vote of 211-117, and at England Hill the total was 218-112.

Some of the closer precincts included Fairview, which approved the new law 114-93; Courthouse, where it was 66-42; and Elmwood Hilltop, where it was passed 93-64.

The closest precinct besides Carp was City Building-Argo, which approved the new law by a tally of 48-44.
