Fall ACTC enrollment sets record

ASHLAND — Ashland Community and Technical College has set another record enrollment.

With figures just released by the Council on Postsecondary Education, ACTC’s total headcount for fall 2007 was 4,756.

This number exceeded last year’s headcount by about 300 students.

The numbers indicate a 14.7 percent enrollment increase since Fall 2006, said ACTC President Greg Adkins.

Adkins attributed the most recent enrollment increase to several factors:

‰Partnerships with each of the local high schools in the FIVCO area give upperclassmen an opportunity to earn college credit while still enrolled in high school.

‰Partnerships with business and industry are increasing enrollment in workforce training courses.

‰While enrollment of full-time students on campus remained steady, enrollment of online students continues to climb.

‰Increased number of students enrolling in health related programs.

‰Expansion of health related programs in the evenings.

‰Increased 2 + 2 program options for students to transfer to universities after they earn an associate degree at ACTC.

“The college changes lives by enrolling students in quality, affordable education programs,” said spokesman John McGlone.

“As the primary access point to postsecondary education in the region, our college is bringing more people into the higher education and exposing students to opportunities that will enhance workplace skills and general knowledge,” he said.
