Veteran Louisa officer indicted again

LOUISA — Additional misdemeanor indictments have been served to a veteran Louisa Police Department officer as part of a grand jury investigation of official misconduct.

Sgt. Barry L. Bellomy is accused of failure to present the Lawrence County grand jury with information about a woman charged with felony drinking and driving charges.

The indictment states Bellomy “knowingly refrained from performing a duty imposed upon him by law” in performing his duties as a law enforcement officer when he “consistently refused to prepare and present the case of Commonwealth vs. Helen Davis (aka Helen Workman).”

According to the indictment, Davis/Workman is accused of a Class D felony for operating a motor vehicle under the influence of drugs or alcohol (fourth offense within five years).

The indictments are part of a grand jury investigation, which followed a recommendation that Bellomy, as well as Louisa Police Department Chief K.T. Adkins, be dismissed from their jobs.

Adkins and Bellomy, veteran officers for the small city, were recently indicted by a Lawrence County grand jury on first- and second-degree counts of official misconduct.

Bellomy is accused of ignoring an official police call while at the home of a former reporter for The Big Sandy News, and Adkins is alleged to have also harassed the former journalist, Roberta Blevins.

Blevins said the police harassment has included late-night visits and telephone calls by officers to her home, as well as manipulative and fabricated statements about details of an automobile accident that claimed the life of her oldest daughter.
