Police beat: 5/26/08

Ashland — The following information was taken from Ashland Police Department reports:

Burglary

‰Police on Thursday arrested two men for allegedly stealing copper from the old Kentucky State Police Crime Lab.

James E. “Eddie” Mullins of Westwood and Donald R. Mullins of Ashland were lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center, charged with third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools.

According to the APD, the two men entered the now-vacant crime lab in the old TB hospital on Landsdowne Drive, stole several hundred pounds of copper pipe and caused extensive damage.

The copper had a scrap value of $1,500, the APD said.

Theft

‰Shell Mart, 2002 Greenup Ave., reported on Thursday someone had driven off without paying for $28.33 in gasoline.

‰A Catlettsburg woman reported on Wednesday her purse was stolen in an unspecified location on Winchester Avenue.

‰A woman living in the 1800 block of Creston Place on Wednesday reported the theft of vehicle parts valued at $1,000.

‰A man living in the 3300 block of Floyd Street on Thursday reported the theft of vehicle parts valued at $2,000.

‰Wal-Mart on Tuesday reported the theft of $5,460 cash. The theft occurred between April 3 and May 8, according to records.

Prescription fraud

‰Wal-Mart Pharmacy reported on Thursday someone had obtained Xanax with a forged prescription.

Fugitive arrest

‰Police on Tuesday arrested William J. Matula, of the 2200 block of Sixth Street, on a warrant charging him with being a fugitive from justice.
