Flatwoods man charged with assaulting officers

Kenneth Hart/The Independent

Greenup — A Flatwoods man has been indicted by a Greenup County grand jury for allegedly assaulting two police officers and two deputy jailers.

Jason R. Frye, 23, of the 2700 block of Cheyenne Court, was charged with four counts of third-degree assault, a Class D felony that carries a prison term of one to five years.

According to court documents, Frye scuffled with Flatwoods police Officers Joe Carver and Glen Riley and Greenup County Deputy Jailers Bryan Tackett and Matthew Mathias on April 2. He allegedly kicked the two police officers and Tackett and struck Mathias with a fist, the indictment states.

Frye also was charged with first-degree criminal mischief for allegedly kicking out a window of a Flatwoods police cruiser and causing other damage to the vehicle, and with resisting arrest, first-degree disorderly conduct, alcohol intoxication and second-degree persistent felony offender.

Also, in an a pair of unrelated cases, the grand jury indicted two women, Tiffany L. Cordle, 26, of Flatwoods, and Ashley N. Carnahan, 24, of South Shore, for allegedly smuggling narcotics into the Greenup County Detention Center. Both were charged with first-degree promoting contraband. Both incidents occurred in April.

In a separate indictment, Cordle, also known as Tiffany Lane Sefcovic, also was charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police and driving under the influence in connection with the Jan. 31 incident that landed her in jail in the first place.

A grand jury indictment is a formal accusation of a crime and does not establish guilt.
