FLEMINGSBURG — A contract to build nine new left-turn lanes along U.S. 60 in Boyd County is among those awarded this month by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The $300,000 safety project will replace small paved “crossovers” with dedicated turning lanes. The goal is to reduce accidents, particularly rear-end collisions, by creating space for traffic to slow down while turning or waiting to turn.
More than a dozen other upcoming projects will resurface nearly 50 miles of roads in Department of Highways District 9 counties.
In District 9, low-bid contracts were awarded in August for the following work:
‰Boyd County: Construct left turn lanes on U.S. 60 between Cannonsburg and Ky. 538 — to Mountain Enterprises Inc., $307,495.64.
‰Rowan County: Resurface various routes — to Hinkle Contracting Corp., $796,668.92.
Craney Road (Ky. 1167) from Crix Cemetery Road to Ky. 173, 5.8 miles.
McBrayer Road (Ky. 2342) from U.S. 60 to Ky. 519, 2.0 miles.
CCC Trail (Ky. 3317) from Rosedale Road to Ky. 32, 3.1 miles.
‰Carter County: Resurface various routes, to Blacktop Industries and Equipment Co., $1,037,975.00.
