Greenup teen killed in accident

GRAYSON — A Greenup County teenager was killed in an accident on I-64 early Thursday morning, according to the Carter County Sheriff’s Department.

Zach Meenach, a freshman at Greenup County High School, was a passenger in a car that crashed in the eastbound lane at mile marker 161 near the Pleasant Valley exit around 1:30 in the morning.

Meenach was returning home from the 16th Region baseball tournament in Morehead where Greenup County was playing East Carter in the semifinals.

The game was delayed by heavy fog and didn’t finish until well after 12:30 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies are reconstructing the accident to find out what happened.
