ASHLAND —
Members of Rotary clubs in Rotary District 6740, which includes the Ashland Rotary Club, are seeking young professionals to form a team that will visit Grenoble, France from March 19 to April 16, 2013.
Through Group Study Exchange, teams of young professionals from two different countries exchange visits. In previous years, exchanges have included France, South Korea, India, and the Philippines.
For four weeks, the team (led by a Rotarian) will experience firsthand the way of life, customs, and vocational practices in France, while at the same times sharing information about their home community and state. Team members are expected to make themselves available for presentations on the experience to Rotary clubs within the district, a presentation at the annual district conference, and to others within the community upon request following their return.
The purpose of Group Study Exchange is to promote international understanding and goodwill through personal connection. While abroad, team members stay in Rotarians’ homes and have the opportunity to meet their professional counterparts. They will also give presentations about Kentucky to Rotary clubs and other groups.
The Rotary Foundation provides round-trip airfare, while Rotarians in Grenoble will provide meals, lodging, and group travel within their district. The only expenses to team members are those for personal and incidental expenses while traveling abroad.
Men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 who live and are employed full-time in professional occupations in any Kentucky county within Rotary District 6740 (most counties east of Interstate 75 and including northern Kentucky) are eligible.
Interested individuals should contact Ashland Rotary Club Chair Kim Yates at (606) 831-0581 or by email at thompkm@kellyservices.com; District Group Study Exchange Chair Josephine Richardson at (606) 633-9637 or by email at chcafe@aol.com; Matt Jacobs at mhjacobs@hotmail.com; or William Banks at (606) 335-9212 or by email at william.m.banks@gmail.

19-year-old launching one-man food drive, ‘Cans for a Cause’
Never accuse Aaron Hannah of not being ambitious and failing to set high goals for himself.
Later this month, Hannah, a 19-year-old 2012 graduate of Raceland-Worthington High School, will launch what is essentially a one-man food drive. His goal: to collect at least 10,000 pounds of canned food for River Cities Harvest to distribute to local nonprofits and churches that help feed the hungry.
Hannah, who just completed his freshman year as a Bonner Scholar at Berea College, said scholars are encouraged, but not required, to do community projects designed to help the needy. -
