OLIVE HILL —
Two women were killed in a head-on collision in Carter County Thursday morning.
The accident occurred about 6:55 a.m. on Ky. 2 near Olive Hill, Kentucky State Police at Ashland said.
According to the KSP, Pamela Carroll, 53, of Olive Hill, was traveling southbound in a 2001 Pontiac when her vehicle veered across the center line and collided head-on with a northbound 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Sharon Moore, 62, also of Olive Hill.
At the time of the crash, the road surface was dry, but visibility was limited due to foggy conditions, the KSP said.
Carroll was pronounced dead at the scene by Carter County Deputy Coroner Jason Duvall. Moore was taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital, where she was pronounced dead about three hours after the accident.
Both of the victims were wearing seat belts, the KSP said.
Carroll was the aunt of Dillon “Nemo” Bryant, a 19-year-old Olive Hill resident who went missing in February 2011 and whose body was later discovered in an Elliott County farm pond. His murder remains unsolved. Carroll spearheaded efforts to locate Bryant during the time he was missing and helped raise money for a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer or killers.
The KSP was assisted at the accident scene by the Olive Hill police and fire departments.
The accident remains under investigation by Detective Toby Gardner.
