Super Joe does it for Ravens

New Orleans — Joe Flacco and his Baltimore Ravens are Super Bowl champions.

The Ravens’ quarterback was named MVP after the Ravens held off the San Francisco 49ers, 34-31, in an electrifying Super Bowl XLVII that included a 34-minute delay because of a power outage early in the second half and a late goal-line stand.

Flacco threw three touchdown passes in the first half to add to his postseason lore. Jacoby Jones set a Super Bowl record with a 108-yard kickoff return to begin the second half that staked the Ravens to a 28-6 lead.

The 49ers almost made history, rallying from the 22-point deficit but never took the lead. San Francisco pulled within 31-29 in the fourth quarter but misfired on the two-point conversion attempt that could have tied it. The Niners had another chance to win it but a late goal-line stand won it for the Ravens.
