A child was hit by a car trying to pass a stopped school bus Wednesday morning in Rowan County.
The driver of the car was later arrested, Kentucky State Police at Morehead said.
The accident occurred at 7:10 a.m. on Ky. 519 South in Morehead, the KSP said. The youngster was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center after being struck by a southbound 2008 Toyota Corolla driven by Scottie D. Ingle, 30, of Morehead.
Ingle allegedly passed the stopped bus while the child was attempting to board it, the KSP said.
The KSP did not release the child’s name, age or gender. However, The Morehead News reported the youngster was 13.
Ingle was arrested about 12:45 p.m. on charges of second-degree wanton endangerment, passing a loading or unloading school or church bus and failure to notify the Department of Transportation of an address change. He was lodged in the Rowan County Detention Center, where he was being held under $10,000 bond.
