Thefts, shoplifting reported to APD

ASHLAND — The following information was taken from Ashland Police Department reports:

Theft

‰A resident of Grandview Manor reported his wallet stolen after he left it on a city bus seat. The wallet contained $23, Social Security, identity, food stamp, medical and prescription cards and pictures.

‰A resident of the 2300 block of Hickory Ridge Drive reported the theft of $49,100 through fraudulent checks written on his account. Police have a suspect.

‰Tri-State Food Systems reported $5,675 stolen via fraudulent pay checks. The company said the thief wrote false invoices for repair work on restaurant furniture belonging to the company. Police have a suspect.

‰A resident of the 3100 block of South 29th Street reported the theft of a trimmer worth $200 from his front porch.

‰A resident of the 2300 block of Griffith Street reported the theft of 90 Xanax tablets from her car.

‰A resident of the 400 block of 20th Street reported the theft of a wallet and debit card from his vehicle. The thief used a brick to break the window and remove the wallet.

Burglary

‰A resident of the 700 block of Pollard Road reported two of his vacant properties were burglarized.

‰State Farm Insurance at 2101 Carter Ave. reported a burglary. A window was damaged and the damage estimate was $200.

‰A thief stole a GPS navigation unit from a vehicle on Mayo Plaza. The thief smashed a window to get in the car.

Shoplifting

‰J.C. Penney reported the theft of $399 in merchandise. Police have two suspects.

‰Rack Room Shoes reported theft of merchandise worth $40. Police have a suspect.

‰Family Dollar reported the theft of merchandise worth $57. Police have a suspect.

‰Walmart reported three instances of shoplifting on Saturday. Merchandise stolen was worth $771 and police have suspects in all three cases.

‰Body Central and Belk reported shoplifting Saturday. The value of the stolen merchandise was $446. Police arrested a suspect and found she had Xanax pills.

  • 59-year-old accused of stealing at Raceland graduation

    A 59-year-old Greenup County man is accused of stealing from students during Raceland-Worthington High School’s graduation on Tuesday night.
    During the graduation ceremony, Doran O’Neal of Raceland stole about $40 and an iPhone from purses placed in a side room, according to the Raceland Police Department. Officers said the theft was captured on surveillance video and they were able to identify O’Neal.
    Raceland Police Chief Don Sammons said the graduation was finished around 9 p.m. and O’Neal was in custody before 10 p.m.

    Guitar-builder Paul Reed Smith shared sonic secrets Wednesday evening during a visit to Ashland’s 4 O’Clock Rock Guitar Shop.
    “This is one of the most dedicated Paul Reed Smith dealers in the world and I’m here because I want to be here,” Smith said Wednesday afternoon as he tested a new chorus-effect pedal through one of his own amplifiers.

    On their final full day of school for the year, nearly 40 Russell High School students decided they could best spend their time placing American flags upon the graves of local veterans buried at Rose Hill Cemetery.
