Drug arrest in Ashland

ASHLAND — An Ashland man was arrested Friday afternoon and charged with trafficking heroin after he allegedly sold the drugs to a police informant.  Steven A. Payton, 22, of Ashland is charged with 1st degree trafficking of a controlled substance and is being lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center.

According to police Payton sold two grams of heroin to a confidential informant working for the Boyd County Department Drug Task Force for $350.  Deputies then executed a search warrant and located heroin and a large amount of cash at Payton's residence in the 2100 block of Belmont Street.

    Later this month, Hannah, a 19-year-old 2012 graduate of Raceland-Worthington High School, will launch what is essentially a one-man food drive. His goal: to collect at least 10,000 pounds of canned food for River Cities Harvest to distribute to local nonprofits and churches that help feed the hungry.
    Hannah, who just completed his freshman year as a Bonner Scholar at Berea College, said scholars are encouraged, but not required, to do community projects designed to help the needy.
