Harris, Johnson will speak at book festival

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Book Festival will be Saturday and Sunday at the Charleston Civic Center.

Speakers at the 12th annual event will include best-selling author Charlaine Harris and “Longmire” author Craig Johnson, along with more than 12 other writers who will give readings, workshops and book signings.

Some of the events are:

Saturday

9 a.m. to 6 p.m. — Kanawha County Public LIbrary’s annual book sale, South Hall.

10 a.m. — Speaker Betty Rivard.

1 p.m. — Book signing by pop-up book designer Robert Sabuda.

11:30 a.m. — Craig Johnson will speak.

12:30 p.m. — Charlaine Harris will sign books.

2:30 p.m. — Charlaine Harris will speak.

4 p.m. — Workshop by Don Teter, author of “Goin’ Up Gandy,” about researching, writing and publishing local history.

Sunday

noon to 4 p.m. — Kanawha County Public LIbrary’s annual book sale, South Hall.

12:30 p.m. — Inaugural reading by new West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman.

2 p.m. — Marilyn Sue Shank, author of “Child of the Mountains,” will speak.

3:30 p.m. — Stories presented by West Virginia Storytelling Guild.

Children’s activities will be ongoing during the festival.
