Burlington, Ohio —
Authorities on Thursday served a search warrant at a Lawrence County retail business and arrested the owner of the shop for allegedly selling synthetic marijuana.
An employee of the business, Counter Culture, at 220 Township Road in a strip mall near Sam’s and Walmart, was also arrested on a charge of tampering with evidence.
The store had been a targeted by the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department and Lawrence County Major Crime Task Force for allegedly selling synthetic marijuana and other analog compounds outlawed by the Ohio legislature on Oct. 17 with the passage of House Bill 64, Sheriff Jeff Lawless said.
According to Lawless, sheriff’s deputies and task force members raided the store on Nov. 1 and removed about $20,000 of suspected synthetic and analog compounds. Samples were sent to the state Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification for analysis and were found to contain the banned substances, he said.
As the investigation continued, deputies learned the store was continuing to sell the products, which led to Thursday’s action, Lawless said.
Robert Holley, 45, the store’s owner was arrested at the scene on a charge of trafficking in drugs. Josh Tackett, the manager of the business, was arrested on a charge of evidence-tampering for allegedly trying to conceal items listed in the search warrant.
