Frankfort — Citizen Foster Care Review Boards for Boyd and Greenup counties are seeking volunteers to aid the cause of foster children.
Volunteers review cases of children placed in foster care because of abuse, dependency and neglect to ensure the youngsters are placed in safe, permanent homes in a timely manner.
Volunteers are not required to reside in the county where a board meets. They review Cabinet for Health and Family Services files on children placed in out-of-home care and work with the Cabinet and the courts on behalf of the children.
Volunteers must complete six hours of training and consent to criminal record and central registry checks. Recommendations are then made to chief judges of the district court or family court.
The Kentucky General Assembly created CFCRB in 1982 to decrease the time children spend in foster care.
