ASHLAND — A disabled U.S. Navy veteran has officially filed to seek election to Congress as Kentucky’s representative from District 4.
John Waltz, a Democrat, filed his paperwork to seek election in 2010 with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office on Wednesday. However, he has been campaigning and raising money for his bid for months.
According to his Web site, www.johnwaltzforcongress.com, Waltz served aboard the USS George Washington from 2000 to 2004 and was deployed in support of Operation Noble Eagle, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The filing deadline for primary races is 4 p.m. Jan. 26. The primary will be May 18.
Kentuckians can only vote in the primary of their registered party. The deadline to register to vote in time for the May primary is April 19. For previously registered voters, the deadline to switch political parties is Dec. 31.
