Ashland — An Ashland man and an unnamed juvenile were arrested during the weekend on charges they each brandished a handgun during a robbery at an Ashland motel.

Gary Watkins Jr., 21, was arrested Sunday and charged with first- degree robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and unlawful transaction with a minor. He is in the Boyd County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.

An unnamed juvenile from Columbus, Ohio, was also arrested in connection with the incident. That individual was also charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Ashland Police Department records, a man living in the Four Seasons Motel at 2317 Winchester Ave. reported he had been robbed at gunpoint on Sunday. The man reported computer hardware and software, cash, drugs and other items valued at $228 had been stolen. Police recovered the stolen items undamaged but seized drugs and drug paraphernalia.

APD officials also investigated another, separate robbery reported on Sunday but no arrests were made in that case.

Police say a woman living in the 3100 block of Railroad Street reported she was robbed at her home by a male and female friend. She reported her purse and jewelry, each valued at $10, along with $400 in cash and $140.14 in checks were taken in the incident.

Burglary

‰A staff member of the Jesse Stuart Foundation,1645 Winchester Ave., reported on Friday items valued at $3,200 were taken from the facility during a burglary there.

‰ A man living in the 2200 block of Sellars Street reported his home had been burglarized on Monday. Nothing was reported stolen.

‰A woman living in the 600 block of Gartrell Street reported items valued at $1,455 were stolen from her residence during a burglary on Sunday. Items reported stolen included electronics valued at $50, audio/visual recordings valued at $600, jewelry valued at $305 and other items valued at $500.

‰A man living in the 300 block of Spring Street reported $100 in items were stolen from his home during a burglary on Friday.

‰A man living in the 800 block of Montgomery Avenue reported his home had been broken into Friday but nothing was stolen.

Theft

‰An Ashland woman was arrested Friday for attempting to steal $97 in merchandise from Belk. She was also charged with public intoxication by a controlled substance other than alcohol.

‰A woman living in an apartment in the 900 block of 29th Street reported on Monday jewelry and other precious metals worth $1,100 were stolen from her residence.

‰An unnamed juvenile was arrested Monday for attempting to steal $1.25 in merchandise from the Claire’s Boutique at the Ashland Town Center.

‰Boyd County Used Cars, 2101 Greenup Ave., reported two separate incidents of theft. On Saturday an employee reported parts valued at $400 had been stolen from a vehicle parked on their lot. On Monday an employee reported vehicle parts valued at $800 had been stolen from another vehicle at the facility.

‰ A man living in the 2300 block of Winchester reported the theft of services valued at $319.96 from a residence in the 300 block of Marcum Street.

Criminal possession

‰David T. Bergman of Ashland was arrested Friday for criminal possession of a forged instrument, second degree. He was reportedly trying to cash a stolen check worth $2,000.
