ASHLAND —
Severe thunderstorm warnings have been posted for portions of Boyd County and Greenup County.
The National Weather Service warnings remain in effect until 8:30 a.m. as a strong frontal system moves through the region with heavy downpours and potentially damaging winds.
The entire region is under a tornado watch until 1 p.m. because of the same storm system. Such a warning means conditions are right for tornado development, but does not indicate the spotting of an actual tornado.
Showers and thunderstorms are likely today and some of the storms could be severe with hail and damaging winds, according to the National Weather Service.
Today’s high will near 68 degrees. Winds will start around 11 to 16 mph then increasing this afternoon to 18 to 23 mph with gusts as has 37 mph. Tonight will bring rain and possible some snow along with mostly cloudy skies and a low around 28. High winds will continue around 20 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 44 mph.
