CATLETTSBURG The following defendants were sentenced Friday by Boyd Circuit Judge C. David Hagerman:
Brian Ferguson, 40, of Flatwoods, one year for identity theft.
Samantha Roberts, 32, of Ashand, one year on drug charges.
Christopher Shannon, 25 of Ashland, two years for burglary.
The following defendants were sentenced Friday by Boyd Circuit Judge George W. Davis III.
David A. Perry, 34, of Ashland, six years for drug trafficking.
Christopher Wheeler, 33, of Ashland, 10 years for manufacturing methmphetamine.
Nursing program accreditation visit
ASHLAND The Ashland Community and Technical College Associate Degree Nursing Program is seeking the continuing accreditation of its nursing program through the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc.
In preparation for the reaccreditation, the nursing program is involved in a thorough self-study process designed to strengthen educational quality and assist in program improvement. A team of NLNAC site reviewers are scheduled for a three day visit in February to meet with college administration, nursing faculty, students and the community.
As a part of the reaccreditation site visit, individuals in the community are invited to meet the visit team and share their comments about the program in a meeting scheduled for 3 to 3:45 p.m. Wednesday in the Teleconference Room at the College Drive Campus.
The NLNAC invites third party comments for the associate degree nursing program being reviewed for continuing accreditation. Comments must be received by NLNAC prior to the site visit. FAFSA assistance at OUS Feb. 10
IRONTON Ohio University Southern will host the statewide college financial aid event “College Goal Sunday” at 2 p.m. Feb. 10.
The free event, presented by the Ohio Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and endorsed by the Ohio Board of Regents, assists students and parents with completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. The FAFSA is the federal application that is required to receive federal financial aid including the Federal Pell Grant and student loans as well as the need-based state grants.
Because of the great demand expected for assistance in completing the FASFA, families are encouraged to register for the free event at ohiocollegegoalsunday.org or by calling (800) 233-6734.
While walk-ins are welcome, registration is encouraged. Record numbers are expected to be in attendance.
Zumba specialist at Y this weekend
ASHLAND Maria Browning, a zumba education specialist, will be having a Zumba Basic One training session today from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Ashland Area YMCA. It is the first step in becoming a Zumba instructor.
On Sunday she will be leading an Aqua Zumba training for those who would like to take it to the water.
Browning is the face for “Party in Pink” the fight against cancer. She has been featured on Special K products.
Cost is $25 per session.
