RICHMOND — Russell’s first taste of the girls Touchstone Energy All “A” Classic was a sour one.
Lexington Christian overwhelmed the Lady Devils 69-42 in an opening round game on Wednesday afternoon at McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University.
Russell hung tough with heavily favored LCA for a quarter, trailing only 12-9.
But the Lady Knights went on a 21-8 tear in the second quarteer to built a 33-17 halftime lead and never looked back.
Kayla Parsley collected 15 points and seven rebounds and Babrielle Cassity had four points and seven rebounds. Arden Gross scored eight for Russell (8-9).
LCA placed four in double figures, led by Sarah Beth Barnette with 18 points. Rachel Cox scored 15, and Kateiln Bundy and Kelly Rinehart 10 apiece.
Lexington Christian’s largest lead was 66-36 in the fourth quarter.
Russell won the 16th Region All “A” Classic last week in Sandy Hook. It was the Lady Devils first time competing in the small school tournament.
