LOUISA —
In honor of Pet Appreciation Week, the Lawrence County Humane Society and Tractor Supply Co. in Louisa will host a pet fair Saturday.
There will be no on-site pet adoption at the supply company, but there will be activities for pets. Activities at the fair to raise donations for the Lawrence County Humane Society Animal Shelter will include a “doggie wash” and minor grooming, such as toenail trimming and ear cleaning, provided by Donna’s Doggie Daycare.
Elizabeth Ashley Photography will snap photos of owners with their pets. Pet pictures will cost $10 and include one 5-by-7 and two 4-by-6 photos and a keychain. Five dollars from every photo package will go to the humane society.
To help stimulate responsible pet adoptions, the photographer will give a gift certificate for a free brief session for each pet adopted from the animal shelter.
The humane society is a nonprofit organization and owns and operates the only animal shelter in Lawrence County.
“We hope people will donate to help keep us open. We’re the only housing facility to take in strays and lost animals. We’ll even help reunite lost pets with their owners,” said Beverly Pack, a volunteer at the humane society.
Another reason for the pet fair is to acknowledge National Homeless Animals Day, which is Saturday.
“We’re trying to encourage adoption from animal shelters instead of puppy mills,” Pack said.
